Welcome to the London Latin Jazz Fest 2017!
The quality Latin Jazz that exists in London holds its strength in its fusions, just like this wonderful melting pot city. As Guest Curator of this year's London Latin Jazz Festival, I'd like to invite you to a trip around the roots and branches of what we know as “Latin Jazz”, a global genre with a heritage as mixed as London's human landscape. This festival brings you the opportunity to experience world-class artists performing passionate, intense music in an up-close, intimate setting.
On Friday night we have two of the UK's most revered pianists: Kishon Khan, who brings us his funky Cuban-Bangladeshi fusion ensemble Lokkhi Terra on the early show, and Dele Sosimi, who joins Kishon on the late show for CubAfrobeat, an all-star 10-piece groovetrain that links Cuba to its Nigerian Yoruba roots.
Teotima's elegant, spiritual Afro-Latin compositions will take you on a journey on Wednesday; on Tuesday, yours truly will kick off the festival with En El Aire Project, where Afro-Cuban folklore meets London's young soul/jazz vanguard. Virtuoso pianist and LLJF curator-in-chief Alex Wilson brings us a collaboration with powerhouse vocalist Nolita Golding for a high-energy Latin Soul Night on Saturday (double show), and Thursday brings you Cuban Timba star Osvaldo Chacón, whose old-school timba arrangements played by London's finest young Cuban musicians will delight both your ears and your hips.
