Welcome to the 7th edition of the London Latin Jazz Festival. Each year, the festival brings a week of world class Latin and Latin jazz music to the exclusive, intimate atmosphere of PizzaExpress Jazz Club in the heart of Soho.
Latin jazz began as a musical conversation between Latin musicians and the buzzing jazz scene of the US; today the genre continues to evolve by listening to the world, and the world listens back. New sounds emerge from cultures making music together; this year, we honour this with an array of artists whose influences are the result of us listening to one another. We are in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the globe; the London Latin Jazz Fest is a unique opportunity to witness a line-up of sensational musicianship in a globally minded setting.
We present to you a collection of performances, some exclusively put together for the festival, honouring the musical traditions of Colombia, Cuba, Argentina, Brazil and Portugal, as well as celebrating where we are: London, a city with a simmering, multicultural musical landscape and a lot to say.
Opening the festival on Monday we have Brazilian multi-instrumentalist legend Ed Motta; on Tuesday, the UK's only large-format Tango group, the London Tango Orchestra; on Wednesday, an exclusively micro-curated project of Afro-Colombian Jazz called Guapi Soul and directed by percussion virtuoso Emeris Solís and Paris-based marimbero La Wey Segura; on Thursday, Fado vocalist Claudia Aurora; on Friday, Eliane Correa's 13-piece Cuban salsa ensemble playing a scorching set of original material; and closing the festival on Saturday, another festival exclusive: a collaboration between the creme de la creme of Afro-Cuban percussion in the UK meets Jay Phelps' jazz quartet under the musical direction of Hammadi Valdés.
Make sure to get your tickets in advance - the festival was sold out the past two editions. We hope you enjoy this collection of hand-picked musical gems!
